Over the years many of our guests have left comments in the guest books in each cottage. Below are some recent examples of what people say and why they visit Tottergill Farm...
The long journey here was definately worth it. A lovely well-equipped cottage which we have been thrilled to return to after each of our very full and exhausting days out.
Dave, Joe & Mathew Cocker, Fareham, Hants - 23rd August 2008 (Garth Cottage)
Well worth the long drive from the south coast. Never visited the 'Lakes' before - and glad we did! The cottage was great - cosy, homely, peaceful and the views were lovely. Locally we enjoyed Talkin Tarn (rowing on the lake, feeding the ducks etc.) and the pub in Talkin provided good grub and at reasonable prices. Hope other guests enjoy it as much as us!
The Miles family, Southampton - 23rd August 2008 (Mill Barn)
Lovely cottage with all that you could need. Great info, really helpful. Gorgeous setting, the children loved the freedom and the sheep. All in all a great week. Thank you.
Ireally enjoyed being here and had so much fun I wanted to stay but I have got to go home, I hope I can come again. Gorgeous scenery and cottage (and if Joyce is reading this, thank you!) and EVERYTHING!! Emma P.S. by everything I ment everything was beautiful.
The Thornber Family, Wirral - 22nd August 2008 (Gelt cottage)
Cumbria is so under rated - what a beautiful county with Tottergill boasting one of the best views of all!! The housekeeping standards in the cottage were excellent. Loved the cosy fire, quality bedding, flowers and yummy fudge. Thank you, keep up the great work.
Vincent, Alexandra & Baby Cormac, Roker, Sunderland - 20th August 2008 (Gill cottage)
We had a great time in this lovely cottage despite the dreadful weather! A lovely area with lots to explore. The leisure club was a bonus and we used the swimming pool, squash courts and gym during our stay. Talkin Tarn was one of our favourites and great for the dog. Our boys really enjoyed the fishing at New Mills Trout Farm and provided us with tea! Our little one enjoyed Walby Farm Park. A great house in a great location!
The Boyd family & Sparkie the dog, York - 16th August 2008 (Mill Barn)
We were really overwhelmed with the surroundings and the overall standard of the cottage. The 'impotant information' was very useful, it certainly made us make the most of our week. We visited Hadrian's Wall, Gretna Green, Brampton, Carlisle, Keswick, Ullswater Lake, Wetherall and of course Castle Carrock. We swam at the Crown Hotel 3 times and found the staff and facilities first rate. We had lunch 3 times at the Weary Sportsman in Castle Carrock and were really impressed by the food and excellent service on each occasion. In particular we found our hosts Stephen & Joyce very warm and friendly and Tottergill Farm very welcoming. It was a very special holiday for us as it was our first as a family and Finlay took his first steps in the cottage aged 1 year & 1 week. Thank you once again Tottergill Farm for a lovely holiday!
Tony, Jo, Bradley & Finlay Barrett, Taunton, Somerset - 15th August 2008 (Gelt cottage)
Our 2nd visit, had another fantastic time. Went to Ullswater, Windermere, Grasmere, St. Bees and went swimming a couple of times at the Crown Hotel at Wetheral. Lovely cottage. Thank you.
Rebecca, Ian, Tom & Claire, Huddersfield - 15th August 2008 (Low barn)
Lovely cottage, beautiful countryside views. We really enjoyed our stay & hope to come again. James really loved the birds in the garden, particularly the woodpecker & pheasants. We have been to the area many times but we think this is the best with everything provided. James wanted to stay! Hope to visit again.
June, Derek & James, Barnsley - 9th August 2008 (Garth cottage)
Spectacular location, stunning scenery and ideally placed for visits to the lakes, the north east & scotland. Also all the local sites of interest. The cottage is beautiful and the use of the local club an added bonus. We enjoyed the wildlife - birds & red squirrels and even listening to and watching the sheep. We hope to be back with the rest of the family. Thanks Angela & Mark.
Mark, Angela & Jonathan Elling, Salisbury - 8th August 2008 (Gelt cottage)
Wonderful cottage, superb views. Enjoyed drinking coffee on the patio taking in the scenery.
David, Janice & Jeff, Colchester - 8th August 2008 (Low Barn)
What an amazing place! 360degree views, great for the soul! Cottage very comfortable - didn't need the heating on though! Lots of lovely touches. Home from home. Great walks from the cottage. Children loved watching the sheep & birds. Lambley viaduct well worth a visit, used The Blacksmiths Arms, atmosphere great, friendly staff, good food, beer great. Can't wait to come back.
Roger, Tracy, Annie & Joe Cooper, Havant, Hants - 2nd August 2008 (Garth cottage)

Thoroughly enjoyable family holiday spent in first class, well equipped accommodation enhanced by the welcoming touches provided by Joyce and Stephen. Picturesque situation, surrounded by the sights, sounds and smells of the country-side. Hope we might be able to return at some date in the future.
The Hendry family, Aberdeen - 14th June 2008 (Mill Barn)
A spectacular place to stay for beautiful views and well equipped to a high standard, comfortable cottage. We notice many improvements to the grounds since our last visit and appreciate the wooden garden furniture and the digital TV, but most of all the new bird feeders have given us hours of entertainment watching the great variety of birds.
Roger & Elizabeth Pikett, Billericay, Essex - 14th June 2008 (Low Barn)
Our 11th visit to Tottergill - been coming since 1996. We love it here, this visit we have had amazing weather - warm at the start - then cooling off - but we have always been comfortable in the cottage. We have particularly enjoyed the birds on the feeders and the lovely skies. We no doubt will be back. Thank you both - keep up the good work.
Susan & Nigel Crick, Barnsley - 14th June 2008 (Garth Cottage)
We all really enjoyed our week's stay at Tottergill Farm. Five of our party of 12 completed the Hadrian's Wall Path during the week - 84 miles in 5 days - and I'm sure we wouldn't have managed it without the hot showers and comfy beds to return to each night. The rest of the party spent their time on more gentle walks along the Wall - and doing some serious quality-checking on local cream teas! One thing at Toittergill that suited us really well was that we were able to put together several tables in one of the units, so that we could all 12 of us eat together at one long table each night! Everyone reckoned Tottergill was a great place, and I'm sure you'll get some repeat bookings. We also learning that a week is far too short a time to explore the Tyne and Eden Valleys.
The Marsden party, Buckinghamshire - 7th June 2008 (Low Barn, Garth & Gelt cottages)
We had a wonderful time, the cottages were very nice to stay in. We would all love to visit again.
Freddie, Anne, & Cyrus Billimoria, Swindon - 7th June 2008 (Gill Cottage)
After reading the other comments here, what more is there to say?! We are first - timers, but we can already say we'll be back! A fantastic set of cottages, all so well equipped and flexible accommodation. We are part of a larger party sharing 4 cottages & we have been able to eat together each evening, and enjoy drinks in the gardens. The sunsets have been fabulous and the fact that they go on well past 11 pm is another bonus. We have enjoyed spotting the Wabbits by the wall and the stubborn sheep who own the road. Thank you for a lovely week, the best part being able to come back from our latest leg of Hadrian's Wall to a hot shower & a chilled glass of wine , and on some nights a roaring fire too! Thanks Hazel & Mark.
Hazel Marsden & Mark Hughes, St. Albans, Herts - 7th June 2008 (Garth Cottage)
A special family gathering in a great place. Everything just perfect - fantastic location. Thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
Jim & Irene Turnbull, Fife; The Yates family, Sheffield; Mark & Susan Walker, Glasgow - 6th June 2008 (Mill Barn)
Had nice week, leisure facilities are fantastic, the pub - 'The Queen Inn' in Great Corby is brilliant. The property is nice but the thing that stands out is the view you get from the balcony of the reservoir.
When you're here you must go to 'The Crown Hotel' to go swimming because there is a mini pool, a large pool, a jacuzzi and a sauna all new and fully functioning. I want to come back but it depends on whether my parents can get the time off work. Great. Ewan Hill (age 12)
It was brilliant. Isobel Hill (age 9)
It has been very very good, I am glad I came! Mathew Hill (age 18)

We saw a Redstart on our second day and the Woodpecker has kept John amused trying to get a decent photograph! No red squirrels seen this holiday unfortunately but I did see a deer in the field and a very large hare also in the field and up on the fell behind Tottergill. Hope to visit again soon.

What a beautiful place! Pheasants in the garden, wonderfulcolours over the fields and trees in the morning sun. Lovely to sit by the log fire (poetic license - wood burning stove) and listen to the wind blowing outside. I drove into Carlisle and found my way out (with a little help from an AA man!). Reccommend Talkin Tarn & Houghton Hall garden centre - especially the food hall. Would love to come back in the autumn. I bet it's spectacular.

Joe & Ryan, Rotherham - 23rd November 2007 (Gelt cottage)
We first came to Tottergill ten years ago & upon returning we realised we had obviously forgotten how lovely it is or we'd have been back much sooner. Had a good chill out weekend just watching the fire & the rain - one of the quieter parts of my 40th birthday celebrations! Enjoyed watching all the birds, especially the woodpeckers. Had a fantastic meal at 'The Weary' - good recommendation, felt like a swish city restaurant in the heart of the countryside - fab food + fab service +decor. Still didn't manage to walk round the lake - the fire was just too inviting...maybe next time! Forgot our swim things, so we are looking forward to trying out the leisure club too. Really enjoyable, peaceful & relaxing break in lovely countryside. See you soon.
Kathy & Marcus Dale, Frodsham - 18th November 2007 (Gelt cottage)

Lovely cottage. made most welcome by Stephen & Joyce with the little personal touches like fresh flowers & yummy homemade tiffin. Fantastic views, wish it had been warm enough for 'sundowners' on the balcony! Thoroughly recommend the 'Blacksmiths Arms' in Talkin for meals.

Our second visit was just as wonderful as the first, so much so in fact that we are planning to move to Cumbria soon! We shall be back! Thank you for the warm welcome - the flowers & choclates are a lovely thought.

Another regular visit, loved the shower. Brought the cloud and rain with me again! Will be back next year again hoping for sun. Conquered Hellvellyn in the cloud, will have to do it again in good weather to see what we climbed. Ate at the Pheasant Inn as per 'Improtant Info' book, we enjoyed it and recommend to anyone.

After a long journey it was so lovely to get into the cottage at 11.45 pm to be greeted by a blazing fire, cups & saucers ready and goodies in the fridge. Thank you for this Joyce & Stephen. We've had a fab holiday, very reluctant to leave, but looking forward to coming back. Saw red squirrel at Talkin tarn, enjoyed the wildlife, visited the pub in Talkin - lovely meal. Girls have loved every minute, we went to Beamish which was worth a visit, travelled to the lakes, Rheged centre, Birdoswald, drove around Newcastle at night, Crown Hotel was great - lovely pool & jacuzzi - thanks again. Steve & Joyce, Thank you so much for all the little details..... This is our first time to this area and we are totally hooked, so close to many places of interest and yet so remote to be able to relax by the fire and enjoythe beautiful surroundings. We felt very much at home here, Joshi doesn't want to go home, he loved to be able to see sheep out of his window lying in bed. We will definately be back next year (already planning when to come) The cottage is absolutely lovely and so clean which makes all the difference! Love The Gallions. x

We would like to say thank you, 'vielen dank' + 'auf wieder sehen'.
