We really enjoyed our stay, the cottage is immaculateand those nice little touches on arrival were very much apreciated i.e. cake (yum), flowers (beautiful) and the champagne (thank you, slurp!). A great way to spend a fortieth birthday. We went to Edinburgh Castle - a 2 hour (ish) very scenic drive and the castle is amazing. Hadrian's Wall, only a short distance away was wonderful to see. We were particularly fond of the log fire and hot tub - awesome touch to a perfect location. Thank you so much. P.S. Loved having company from your friendly cat...she is lush!!
Jo & Dave Airey, Heugg, Katie,Will, Elliot and Marie, Manchester, 10th February 2012 (Mill Barn)
Wow! What a stunning place! Location and accommodation, such attention to detail.
We were made to feel very welcome and at home.
What a great reception, they even made room in the barn for our broken down car. So accommadating. Thanks for such a great weekend. They have thought of everything. Definately come again. Lovely meal at 'The Duke of Cumberland' pub in the village, well worth a trip there. Enjoy!! We did!!
Dawn & Andrew Stansfield, Denton & Sue & Shane Oldham, Hazel Grove, Manchester, 5th February 2012 (Watson Cottage)
Thank you Stephen & Joyce for such a lovely holiday. You really have thought of everything. The cottage is imaculate, the beds are super comfy and everywhere is so clean. The hot tub abd fire added a huge bonus. We would not hesitate to come back and may even bring the parents! The best meal we had whilst here was at 'The Highland Drove' at Gt Salkeld - well worth the drive out. Thanks again for a fab holiday.
Sarah, Simon, Emily & Rosie Jackson, Preston, 27th January 2012 (Watson Cottage)
Such an amazing weekend, we did not want to leave. From the lovely cakes and chocolates to stunning views and wildlife. It was fantastic, particularly seeing the baby deer and such a clear night stargazing. All I can say is 'magical!' This was our first time here but it wont be our last. Thank you.
Sean & Lauren Mullen, Manchester, 23rd of January 2012 (Gill Cottage)
A fantastic home from home in the beautiful cumbrian countryside. Excellent!

Fantastic weekend away. Beautiful cottage & perfect location. Enjoyed our walks at Hadrians Wall and into Talkin Tarn. Great lunch at The Blacksmiths Arms. Thank you for the cakes, chocolates and flowers.
Rachel & Harley, Winchester, Hants, 16th January 2012 (Gill Cottage)
Our second new years eve at Watson Cottage - been looking forward to it all year - and wasnt disappointed. Beautiful cottage, amazing location and scenery. Mr Prescott still in love with 'his baby' the Jacuzzi. No deer this year and no snow either. Duke of Cumberland and Blacksmiths (Talkin) great pubs doing great food within walking distance. The Highland Drove at Great Salkeld (about 10 miles) worth the drive for a special meal. Joyce and Stephen do a brilliant job of making and keeping Tottergill at the very top of its game - we love it and have booked for Christmas! Its simply superb!!
Messrs Prescott & Bacon, Mansfield, Notts, 8th January 2012
Beautiful cottage in a stunning location. We had a fabulous holiday. Thank you for the champagne, chocolates and cake! Happy New Year to you both!
Jenna, Francesca & Gary Morgan, 7th January 2012 (Gill Cottage)
We had a lovely weekend. The weather was not good but the cottage was warm, cosy and comfortable. We would love to come back again in the spring / summer. Thank you.
Julie Vickers & Richard Dobson, Cheshire, 2nd January 2012 (Garth Cottage)
We have found the perfect venue for future family gatherings. The location is the ideal antidote to life in suburban Surrey. Loved just snuggling up in Garth Cottage with the family, watching DVD's, chatting, star gazing and watching birds at the feeders, or walking over the hills around Keswick (complete with bracing wind) using the swimming facilities at the leisure centre (absolutely brilliant) and spending time in Castle Carrock with family. We certainly know where to come for future family gatherings! Many thanks indeed.
Joan, Alistair, Becky and Zoe Booth, Surrey, 30th December 2011 (Surrey)
Fabulous first Christmas away from home. Thank you so much for the Christmas tree and present underneath. They were very unexpected and added greatly to the festive feel, making a home away from home. Thanks for recommending Fantails restaurant; fantastic meal! We can also recommend the Heathers Glen at Ainstable for an excellent Christmas lunch. The 11 hour power cut did not spoil our enjoyment during our stay at Watson Cottage.
Gill & Brian, Clare, Chris & Darcy, Marg & Frank, Leominster and Market Drayton, 30th December 2011 (Watson Cottage)
Came for a birthday celebration as we were turning 25. Really enjoyed the beautiful house, lovely scenery and the hot tub. Thank you for the champagne and the mince pies, we felt really well looked after. I would love to come again.
What a fantastic holiday we have had, made possible in no small part due to this beautiful property and to the surroundings. We will certainly be back and will tell others what a great place we've found. Thank you very much.

Graham & Penny, Cheltenham, 11th November 2011 (Gelt Cottage)
What can I say? Beautiful cottage, perfectly equipped, stunning location, with views to die for, but that isnt all.....a welcome gift of shortbread and chocolates, and the piece de resistance: the hot tub, complete with visiting woodpecker. This is absolutely the closest thing to paradise I've yet found - with any luck, I will be back.
Stunning location, wildlife, a superbly equipped home away from home - we were even lucky with the weather! Joyce & Stephen really go that extra mile to making this the perfect place to unwind, relax and really enjoy every moment. Thank you both for making it happen. We will certainly tell our friends. Freddie said he loved the garden!
Maggie Livesay & Wendy Carr & Freddie the Bichon Frise, Cornwall, 4th November 2011 (Mill Barn)
What a perfect honeymoon we've had here in Watson Cottage. Thank you for providing such a beautiful and relaxing place for us to stay - you can't improve it in any way! Hope to see you again.
Wayne, Jess & Lily Darlington, Rugeley, 4th November 2011 (Watson Cottage)
Kids particularly impressde by working waterwheel. Parents more impressed with cottage and chocs! Fantastic facilities, highlight of trip for Luke & Aaron was seeing truck and sheep out of bedroom window. Toured local area, best pub food was The Cumberland in Castle Carrock. Nice walks at Talkin Tarn and Armathwaite, very good 'pooh stick' bridge. Visited friends at Haltwhistle - very good soft play for wet day (splatz). Thank you for a very pleasant stay, we will be back soon!
Matt, Ali, Like & Aaron Grant, Harrogate, 31st October 2011 (Gelt Cottage)
We have had a lovely relaxing stay. The cottage is warm and comfortable. Great to be back in Cumbria & Northumberland. We will visit again - good luck with the new cottages.
Sheila French & Pete Sutton, 31st October 2011 (Garth Cottage)
After a warm welcome from Stephen & Joyce we soon settled in to enjoy the amenities of Watson Cottage, both inside and out. This is the best self catering accommodation we have ever stayed in. We enjoyed a variety of activities - with something to interest three generations. Two local walks culminated in a meal at the 'Duke of Cumberland' (good value) and we also visited the northern Lake District and Hadrian's Wall. There is so much still to do that we hope to return.
It was excellent staying here because me and George loved the hot tub and the people in the pub were lovely.
Sarah & Dave Foster, Millie & George, Dorothy & Paul Bryan, Oxfordshire & Tynemouth, 28th October 2011 (Watson Cottage)
Yet another visit - and another lovely one. The scones and cream and fresh flowers a wonderful welcome - Tottergill must be one of the if not THE BEST place to be for a quiet restful break. So comfortable and warm and brilliant views from all the windows. We both needed the break after a hectic time with the family. Thank you both so much for all that you do here to make your guests comfortable, welcome & planning to return.
Arthur & Pam Olsen, Nottingham, 28th October 2011 (Garth Cottage)
Our second visit ; love the addition of better downstairs walk in shower. Thanks for the welcome scones, biscuits & chocs. Fab week, good weather, some great walks. Beth celebrated her 16th birthday this visit made good by hot tub, champagne and the balloon delivery finding the cottage on time!
Michael, Tracy, Chris & Emily North, Jill, George, Beth & Robert, Nottingham, 28th October 2011 (Mill Barn)
Have had a lovely relaxing week in this delightful cottage. Very welcomed tea & scones on arrival after the long drive. Stunning views. Very comfortable cottage with everything made very easy. Stunning location and brilliant find. Loved having the log fire every night and made full use of the swimming facilities, a great added bonus. A perfevt little holiday - thanks!
Rebecca Boxall & Giles Bramwell, Peak District, Derbyshire, 26th October 2011 (Gill Cottage)
Fab stay at Tottergill - none of us wanted to leave - so glad we extended our stay! Lovely to wake up every morning to magnificent, rustic views & quiet bliss apart from natural birdsong & whistling wind (at least till boys woke up!), then return to wood burning glow & cosy hideaway in the evening. Sightings of woodpecker, nuthatches daytime and owls at dusk were a daily occurrence. We explored nearby quaint villages & fells in relaxing undiscovered Eden Valley, but cottage also ideally located for accessing a range of other beautiful & fascinating places, Hadrian's Wall, Lake District, Northumberland national Park & the Penines.
The boys particularly liked: rowing on Talkin Tarn, Walby Farm Park, the outstanding interactive Tullie House in Carlisle and a fantastic new farm venture near Durham called 'Adventure Valley' (highly recommended!). They were also thrilled to experience a jacuzzi at The Crown Hotel pool, free with cottage stay (min 8 yrs in Jacuzzi). Great lunch venues to be found at the Old Mill Cafe in Moreland & Village Bakery in Mellmerby. Blacksmiths Arms to be commended for child friendly tolerance (and delicious food). Thanks to both of you for sharing a slice of paradise - and for welcoming flowers, cakes & chocs!!
Peter, Rtan & Kyle, Edinburgh, 24th October 2011 (Gelt Cottage)
Having spent many happy hols in Garth cottage where we have shown our son and fiancee he glories of Tottergill, we've moved into Mill barn to give our daughter and family the chance of this slice of paradise. As ever the accommodation is superb in every way and the sponge (cup) cakes sooo light (how do you do it Joyce?!) Neil has relived the Roman invasion by tramping the walls - Laurie (almost 6) and Fi (nearly 2) tag along. Looking back the weather has been better than we expected & we have had a lovely time. We old ones (2) are moving down to Garth for a week - hows that for spoiling oneself. As always - thank you both so much for all you both do here - God bless.
Pam & Arthur Olson, Anna, Neil, Laurie & Ffion Thomson, Nottingham and Crieff, 21st October 2011 (Mill Barn)
Another great week spent at Tottergill! This is our third trip here and we will definately be back again soon. Ended up in Newby Bridge this week and had a great meal at The Swan Inn (part of the hotel). Also took the Keswick to Windermere road this week instead of via Kendal, what absolutely stunning scenery! We just love coming here, what else can we say? It is the best cottage holiday we have been on without a doubt. Feel refreshed and relaxed, going home tomorrow.
Russell, Sarah & Jack Herdis, Edinburgh, 13th October 2011 (Gelt Cottage)
Gorgeous cottage and surroundings. We really enjoyed staying here - very many thanks. Garth cottage is a great place to stay whilst exploring the area. Thanks for the cakes, sweets and flowers. We all had a fantastic stay here and the views are spectacular! Me and my sister loved our room and we enjoyed the fantastic television!
The Pitkin Family, Tayport, Fife, 14th October 2011 (Garth Cottage)
Stephen & Joyce, thank you for another fabulous holiday at Tottergill. We can't remember when we last felt this relaxed! Really king of you to book the weather for us - we werent expecting 28c in Cumbria in late September... Not much for us to recommend to future guests as we've done nothing but recharge our batteries - lots of cups of tea in the back garden, admiring the view; few lazy walks around Talkin Tarn & some fab home cooked meals (we're really grateful for your advice to visit the butcher in Corby Hill - top bloke, top quality meat). What else can I say? We'll be back - thanks again.
Andy & Allison Fairhurst, Flash and Sassy, Warrington, 7th October 2011 (Low Barn)
Kezia & Jim's Honeymoon. Wow! Beautiful, Tranquil & idyllic location....Hadrian's Wall, windy craggs, roman ruins, rainy tarns, priorys, gift shops and farm foods. Moonlight, windswept hot tub, drinks, more drinks and stars.... We have had a lovely time - the cupcakes were gorgeous and along with the honeymoon champagne were a real treat! Our dog Tess was a big fan of the fire! All we need to do now is go home to Nottingham, win the lottery and buy the lot off you and live here forever!! Thank you!
Kezia & Jim Tomlinson, Nottingham, 7th October 2011 (Mill Barn)
Having had a wonderful family weekend in Mill Barn for a 60th, those of us who have now retired or could get time off!! transferred to this lovely cottage with the help of Joyce & Stephen to stay for the rest of the week. Have had a wonderful time touring around, walking & visiting lovely places. Thank you for everything.
Teresa & Neil Munroe, Peter Searle, Purley, Surrey, 7th October 2011 (Gill Cottage)

A fabulous week enjoyed in the heatwave. Spectacular views, comfortable cottage and a lovely place to have spent a week celebrating a birthday, the healing of our daughter and 16 years of marriage. We've loved staying here. Visits to the Lake District, Hadrian's Wall and local walks. Gorgeous meal at 'The Pheasant Inn' Cumwhitton.
Mark & Michelle Howell, Taunton, 3rd October 2011 (Gelt Cottage)
Having grown up in the Cotswolds and Herefordshire respectively and now live in the Forest of Dean, we thought we had seen beautiful views, and then we came to Gill Cottage! Wow! The warm welcome and the cottage itself are even better than the website suggests. loads to do but not enough time, so will definately return. Food at 'The Pheasant' at Cumwhitton is a must. Thanks for a great break!
Stu & Su Norton, Forest of Dean, 23rd September 2011 (Gill Cottage)
What a great week this has been! Watson Cottage has been the perfect place to come back to after spending the day exploring the area: breathtaking views all around, the wonderfully invigorating hot tub, and everything one could possibly ask for in the way of comfort and overall 'relaxability'. Stephen & Joyce, thank you both for making my daughter and me feel so at home in your amazing cottage!
Irene Owen and Magali Luengas, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 23rd September 2011 (Watson Cottage)
A mixed week weatherwise, but we have managed to get out and about and still enjoy all the area around here - also went into the Borders - we are envious of their smooth and quiet roads. Thank you - hope to see you in 2012.

What a great place, perfect for a relaxing break & ideal with small children, cosy, welcomming & in fab surroundings. Many thanks.
The Fraser Family, Edinburgh, 19th September 2011 (Gelt Cottage)
We've had a lovely break. The cottage is lovely and the views stunning. The weather has not been as bad as expected, so that was a bonus! The walks are lovely but a bit muddy - we would definately recommend wearing wellies! Talkin Tarn is well worth a visit, beautiful views and not too muddy! We would love to come back with a group of friends and stay in one of the larger cottages with hot tub. By the way the homemade cakes and chocs were delicious - thanks!
Paul & Allison Hetherington, Whitley Bay, 19th September 2011 (Gill Cottage)
A week in Garth Cottage and visiting its locality did the trick!! - We are now feeling relaxed and 'chilled'. Highlights of this visit to Tottergill were some stunning afternoon and evening views - expecially the sunset on Wednesday. We enjoyed the cakes, chocs and lovely roses. Thank you both again for a great break.
Helen & Alan Nicholson, East Bogholt, Suffolk, 16th September 2011 (Garth Cottage)
You should be very proud of the holiday cottages you have, they are all beautiful. Gelt cottage is a home from home, you did not need to bring anything with you apart from clothes and food as all is supplied for you. All of the tiny details makes it a fantastic place to visit. The surrounding area is fantastic with lots to do for all ages and the views are superb. Thank you so much for having us, best holiday yet and we will definately be back. This cottage definately deserves its 5 stars. Shame there are'nt more stars as it is worth a lot more! Thank you again. See you soon.
Claire & Maureen Dodds, Tracey Armstrong & Mary McLoughlin, Seaham, County Durham, 16th September 2011 (Gelt Cottage)
Thank you for a lovely relaxing week - even the wet and windy weather could not detract from this amazing cottage and its stunning views. By far the best standard of holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in - a fantastic family living area where we could all spend time together and comfortable bedrooms all with televisions and en suites, allowing everyone to have there own space! The hot tub was the icing on the cake, we spent lots of time chilling out both during the day and at night, which was particularly amazing as we watched the moon rise and the stars come out - a spectacular sight.
We would particularly recommend 'The Duke of Cumberland' in Castle Carrock - walking distance, great food and super service.
This was our first holiday with our 8 week old daughter and was just perfect for us to all spend time together with our new addittion.
Louise, Neil and baby Emily Kerr, Granda, Nana & Uncle Andrew Poulson, Scotland, 16th September 2011 (Watson Cottage)
What a beautiful piece of luxury in the middle of nowhere. We knew when driving up the steep drive this was going to be everything we hoped for. We walked everywhere and made it to Gelt Woods through all the rain & mud. Thank you so much and we look forward to staying in the future.

We were all really impressed with the barn, just perfect in every way. My husband loved the walks and kids loved the hot tub and the welcome cakes. Would definately recommend and return. Many thanks.
Steph, Bern, Tilly, Lola & Flo, Essex, 5th August 2011 (Watson Cottage)
As good as it gets! Fantastic cottage, beautiful location, really peaceful, great hosts - helpful and very friendly. Will recommend to anyone heading this way! Woodpecker finally turned up on our last morning! Thanks for a lovely week.
Janet & John Sherrington, Chelmsford, Essex, 5th August 2011 (Low Barn)
Our knowledge of the English language is not good enough to find the exact words that could translate the kindness of our hosts and the warmfullness of the cottage. Maybe 'supercalifragilixexpedelicious' will suit well! We are all so sad to have to leave this 'part of heaven' everything was beyond expectations: cottage ( with lovely details and warm welcome touches), surroundings, weather, unforgettable stay! Thanks for everything.
Karl, Chantal, Katia & Yannick, Waterloo, Belgium, 1st August 2011 (Gelt Cottage)
Really enjoyed our stay, the cottage was like home from home. In addition to previous comments, a visit to Honister Slate Mine in Borrowdale is well worth the effort. Thank you Stephen & Joyce for the warm welcomeand the lovely cakes and chocs. Tottergill ticks all the boxes.
Jim, Rachel & Chloe Mills, Billericay, Essex, 29th july 2011 (Garth Cottage)
Excellent accomodation and peaceful location. Weather was excellent. The children loved Walby Farm.
Nick, Emma, Fergus & Jamie, Oxford 29th July 2011 (Watson Cottage)
Before booking the cottage we read the reviews and thought that they must be too good to be true. We are delighted to say that we were wrong! Tottergill lives up to every one of them. The cottage is immaculate and the most well equipped we have ever stayed in. A warm welcome and stunning views has ensured that we dont want to leave. We would definately recommend Tottergill and hope to return soon. Thank you for a great stay.
Chris, Sue, & Daniel Carpenter, Hampshire, 25th July 2011 (Gelt Cottage)
Thanks once again for a wonderful holiday. A truly relaxing week away. This has been our third visit to Watson Cottage, Tottergill - we just can't resisit coming back. Irrespective of bad weather there are so many things to see and do around Tottergill and a wonderful cottage & hot tub await your return every evening - perfect! Once again thank you to Stephen & Joyce for a lovely welcome - you truly have a wonderful place here - congratulations. Wehope to see you again very soon - perhaps for some winter mountain biking in the Lakes. Many thanks and best wishes.
Matt & Karen, Morpeth, 22nd of July 2011 (Watson Cottage)
We all enjoyed the comfortable accommodation. The little ones loved the countryside and the swimming pool at the Crown and the hot tub. The rest of us enjoyed Carlisle - Castle , Cathedral, Tullie House Museum (and cafe) and shopping. Then exploring further along Hadrian's Wall. Stunning views, weather watching took on a new meaning. Thanks for a lovely holiday & a super spot to celebrate Grandads 70th.
The Wren & Glossop Families, Leicester, 22nd of July 2011 (Mill Barn)
We've had a lovely honeymoon in beautiful surroundings. Thank you for your warm welcome (especially the muffins!). The cottage was the perfect base for exploring the lakes, canoeing and lots and lots of walking! We also had a delicious meal at @the Pheasant' in Cumwhitton. We enjoyed the facilities at The Crown Hotel - an excellent place to relax after lots of walking. Thank you for a perfect holiday, see you again soon. Lee & Jess.
Lee & Jess Warford, & dogs Copper & Todd, Somerset, 20th July 2011 (Low Barn)
Thank you Stephen & Joyce for a lovely, relaxing week in beautiful Watson Cottage. The weather was perfect, the setting idyllic and we couldn't ask for any more in the cottage - it is so well equipped and comfortable. Our 11 yr old daughter just loved having a double bed and an en suite all to herself! And what better way to end the days than sipping champagne in the hot tub - sheer luxury!
Eating out we'd thouroughly recommend The Fox & Pheasant in Armathwaite and The Pheasant Inn in Cumwhitton.
All in all a superb week and we hope to come back again soon...but next time we'll bring the dog so we can try out one of your other cottages. Thanks again.
Malcolm, Carolyn, Andrew & Eilidh Reid, Livingston, Scotland, 15th of July 2011 (Watson Cottage)
We explored our Watson ancestors and enjoyed the wonderful countryside. Tottergill farm, the ideal place to stay.
Chris & Penny Wallace & Ian & Richenda Wallace, London & Farnham, 15th of July 2011 (Garth Cottage)
Gill Cottage, what can we say, small but perfectly formed. Loved it and you had thought about everything. The welcome tray was a great start to the week, thank you. You must feel so priveledged to wake up to those stunning, ever changing views everyday. Thank you for a lovely holiday, hope the weather is better next time. Zak & Ben settled in no bother. We will certainly recommend Tottergill to family & friends.
Linda & John, Stockton on Tees, 11th July 2011 (Gill Cottage)
Had a great week, only 2 wet mornings and sunshine the rest of the week. Watson Cottage is the best self catering accommodation that we have stayed in over the last 4 / 5 years. Cakes and sweets were a lovely touch and hot tub was a big hit!!! Can recommend 'Golden Palace' chinese take away in Brampton - very tasty. Thank you Stephen & Joyce. Angus & Susan.
The hot tub has been fantastic - a great attraction. The cottage was lovely and the cakes were yummy. We've had a great week and hope to be back soon! Thanks again, Emma (age 15)
Thanks for an amazing time. The cottage is fantastic and the location was beautiful. Thouroughly enjoyed the hot tub and the massive beds!! Thanks again, Lucy (age 17).
Angus, Susan, Lucy & Emma Fraser, Inverness, 8th July 2011 (Watson Cottage)

Kitch & Co, Watermill Inn, Ings, Windermere
Well, what can I say, we've only come up the road for a quiel getaway and have found a smashing place! We've had mixed weather while we were here but its not stopped us going out or even using the hot tub at Mill Barn where our friends also rented, lovely for getting together for a big breakfast or even dinner sat on the big deck watching the sun go down. What an amazing view. We do hope to be back, maybe next year. Thank you.
Heather, Slevin & Graham, The Lakes & Southport, 8th July 2011 (Low Barn)
This was baby marcus's first holiday with his parents and I can proudly say he loved it!! It is a gorgeous location, tranquil and with all the lovely sunshine all week it was heaven on earth. Although it was the family's first visit to Tottergill, we hope it wont be our last, it really was like being home from home except a little more special. We loved our cosy cottage, especially the fireplace, it really added authenticity to our holiday. Where do we start about the stunning views we have seen this past week at Tottergill, they were just beautiful....the warm sunsets in the evening and the sheep first thing in the morning were the best!! Thank you Joyce & Stephen for the lovely week.
Stephen, Mindy & Marcus, Glasgow & Brampton, 1st July 2011 (Gill Cottage)
We had a lovely stay. Sitting on the patio looking at the view. Great welcome. A brilliant week.
Simon & Jan, Leeds, 1st July 2011 (Low Barn)

The O'Neill family, Co. Derry, N.Ireland 24th June 2011 (Mill Barn)
A lovely relaxing break at this delightful cottage. Very cosy and well equipped and the views stunning even in the rain! Thank you Joyce & Steve for the lovely cakes and fudge - they were most welcome. Thouroughly enjoyed meals at Fantails and The Duke of Cumberland. Hope to return again one day to enjoy this lovely accommodation and see more of the area.
Andrew & Mandy, Isle of Wight (Gelt Cottage) 24th June 2011
Lovely cottage with beautiful views. We have seen so much wildlife, including Tawny Owl, Jay, Deer, Hares and so many garden birds including Woodpecker feeding her baby. Thank you so much for all the extras which have made our stay so comfortable. I'm sure we will be back.
Penny & Mike Gleed, Gloucester 24th June 2011 (Garth Cottage)
Fantastic cottage and views, lovely touches of cake & chocolates. We have enjoyed our long weekend here, very relaxing. We will be back to visit again.
Laura & Andrew Frater & Jahle (the beagle), Edinburgh, 19th June 2011 (Gill Cottage)
We wanted to find somewhere special to celebrate my fathers 75th last week & my 25years long service - and this place exceeds all expectations. Many places claim to have 'a view' but this has been exceptional. Very friendly welcome & nothing too much trouble. Never stayed anywhere so close to the wildlife - from the housemartin staring in from the balcony, the deer overseeing the Jacuzzi or this mornings baby woodpecker flying around the lounge on his way out again; etraordinary. To those who follow, buy a copy of 'Lakes & Cumbria Today' £2.75 from everywhere - it details some brilliant days out whatever the weather. We enjoyed everything we tried, but look for some of the following:- White Moss Common near Grasmere, Talkin Tarn, Crown Hotel (Wetheral) & Lacys Caves walk, Glencoyne & Glenridding in Ulswater (fantastic day), the revitalised Whitehaven (festival 17th to 19th June looks good), Buttermere & the valley back spectacular; Mittonrigg Woods & Solway Aviation Museum @ Carlisle Airport also good. Often said, but genuinely don't want to go home & Jack (dog) fancies a change of career involving sheep. Thanks for everything.
Peter, Terry & jack Thompson, Nantwhich 17th June 2011 (Mill Barn)
Thank you for a lovely cottage, my father and I found it the perfect home from home. He loved the big screen TV & surround sound and I loved my very own en suite bathroom - fab!! A perfect location to celebrate his 85th birthday in!! Thank you both.
Louise & Stanley, Buckingham & Northants, 17th June 2011 (Watson Cottage)
Once again, home from home - A relaxing week, weather normal Cumberland!
John & Rosemary, Byfleet, Surrey, 17th june 2011 (Gill Cottage)
The first time Nigel and myself came to visit Tottergill was a fluke. We had previously had a holiday in Northumbria, using an agency called Northumbria Byways. At the time I was still working and Nigel had taken early retirment. One day I said I could have a certain week's holiday and for him to book somewhere in Northumbria, from one or two cottages we had picked out that we liked the look of. However, they were all full and the agency informed Nigel that they had a new venue which was not published in the brochure, ie Tottergill! We decided to book a week and actually that first year - 1996 was the best weather we have ever had, so hot and sunny. We stayed in Gill cottage and had a lovely time. Everything was brand new and we loved it. Suffice to say, we have had other holidays in Northumbria, but we do love the Eden Valley.
Susan & nigel Crick, Barnsley, 10th June 2011 (Garth Cottage)
Thanks so much Stephen & Joyce....we have had a fantastic week here at Tottergill. You should be extremely proud....Tottergill is fabulous, as is your friendship....memories made....thankyou.
Mel, Roy, Dave, Charley & Harry, Carnforth, 10th June 2011 (Watson Cottage)
Whatever our expectations, they were exceded: a warm and comfortable cottage, a friendly welcome, and splendid views. We have found Tottergill an ideal centre from which to pursue our interests. Brampton church (Phillip Webb, Morris / Burne-Forres windows) was inspirational. A wet and wind swept trudge to the roman fort at Houseteads was character forming. The navigational challenge of finding 'Blackwell' (arts & crafts house) was amply rewarded, thanks to the splendid restoration by The Lakeland Trust. All this, and nightcap by the log fire: one could ask no more. Thank you Joyce & Stephen.
John & Margaret Craig, Falkirk & Theo & Girdon Miles, Somerset (Low Barn) 10th June 2011
Beautiful place, delightful accommodation!
Michael, Asli & Alec Ball, London 3rd June 2011 (Watson Cottage)
Amazing views, fantastic welcome - truly wonderful holiday. We enjoyed the bird and bug spotting, some fantastic walks and if you want a relaxing day where the kids can burn off loads of energy, try Walby Farm. We'll definately be back. Thanks.
Claire, Finley, Denise & Arthur Bateman, Lancashire 3rd June 2011 (Garth Cottage)
3rd visit and weather is different everytime. Pool & facilities at Wetheral great for a wet day. Love the walk around Carrock Fell - straight out of back door & you're there! (with a little climb!) Nice walks along beck from Gelt Bridge & also along Lanercost and up on Hadrians Wall. Lancaster Red, recommended if you like a pint in village. Cakes on arrival approved by all.
Rob, FIona, Matt, Ewan & Isobel, Durham 3rd june 2011 (Mill Barn)
10th visit. Thank you for the flowers, cake and fudge (always a nice gesture). The weather hasnt been brilliant this week, until today, the last day (typical). You are both still doing a fantastic job (even without your two daughter's help). Dont forget we will buy it when we win the lotto! Thank you, see you next time.
The Coopers, Notts 3rd June 2011 (Gill Cottage)
Thank you Joyce & Stephen for making us feel so welcomed. Although we have only had a few days, they have been very relaxed. I think we had every aspect of the British weather ( and all within a half hour period!!), but this did not spoil any part of our break. We will certainly miss the views and the wildlife, but nothing beats the regular visits from the woodpeckers, and our cosy evenings around the log burner with a couple of glasses of something alchoholic will be hard to beat. Thank you once again for letting us share your way of life!
Anna, Roger, Mark & Ricky the Springer Spaniel, Bristol (Mill Barn) 27th May 2011
Yet another fantastic stay. Lovely cottage and surroundings as always. Thanks for your hospitality, we will see you again soon.
Mark, Katie & Alfie, Wolverhampton (Gill Cottage) 27th May 2011

Muriel, Mary & Gladys, Refrewshire (Gelt Cottage) 20th May 2011
Just a lovely, warm, comfortable cottage with stunning views, fresh air and walks on the doorstep! What more could we have asked? Despite variable, sometimes wet weather, we had a lovely holiday. Hadrians Wall a must. Food and welcome at The Duke of Cumberland in Castle Carrock excellent. Thank you to all at Tottergill.
Ann & Alan Downie, Midlothian (Gelt Cottage) 14th may 2011
We loved the house, the lambs, the sunsets, the fireplace! What a lovely stay, thank you.
Kirri & Tim, Sydney, Australia (Garth Cottage) 13th May 2011
Peace perfect peace - our stay could not have been bettered. Thank you.
David & June, Wigton (Garth Cottage) 6th May 2011
Your cottage was fantastic, we came for my Dads 50th a great experience! I am going in the hot tub in a minute (hopefully) very exciting. Me and my sister slept in the bunk beds. Yesterday we all went to see Hadrians Wall, thank you very much! The cottage was great, the fire kept me toasty! Your sincerely A. Fraser (aged 10)
The Fraser family, Ripon (Mill Barn) 22nd May 2011
Well equipped and spacious accommodation with excellent facilities. Had a great 'chill out' weekend - pity the weather was not on our side but managed the hot tub with the aid of umbrellas!! Thank you.
Ruth Pollard & Friends, All over! (Mill Barn) 16th May 2011
Wonderful location, views to die for. Great wildlife, loved the woodpecker. Weather mixed but cosy cottage with wood burner a real bonus.
Eileen, John & Meg, Solihull (Gill Cottage) 23rd May 2011
What a magical place. We just loved everything about the place especially the sheep & thier lambs. The walks endless. People - so very friendly. Hope to be back with the family in late summer.
David & Nancy Bell, New York (Gill Cottage) 16th May 2011
Peace, perfect peace!!! The panorama changes continually. Seven days of beautiful sunshine, despite the strong easterly wind, which meant I was doubled over walking on the fells @ 2000 feet!!! I would recommend the Gilsland to Castlestead section of Hadrians Wall - especially dropping down to the river Earthing & Lanerton. Also the Penine Way from Garrington - Alston - Knarsdale, beautiful ravine / river walking and very accessible. Nature is chicken soup for the soul!! God bless.
Pat O'Connor, Hull & Eire (Gill Cottage) 6th May 2011
Beautifully designed cottage - what a plus to come away and have such comfy beds. The cottage is also designed to be family friendly with open plan lounge / kitchen onto flat garden enclosed. We have had a fantastic sunny and dry week for this time of year and visited many attractions:- South Tynedale Railway @ Alston, Rheged Centre @ Penrith, Carlisle Castle, Ullswatwer Steamers, Abbott Lodge Jersey Ice Cream Farm, Hutton in the Forest historic house and gardens, Larch Cottage Nurseries - great restaurant, Village of Morland - mill yard cafe and gardens of Morland Hall, Walby Farm Park - great for all ages of children. We also liked the pool at the hotel included! But food there was disapointing! So thank you so much for a wonderful week spent in the Eden valley.
The Huddart family, County Durham (Watson Cottage) 6th May 2011
Wonderful place to celebrate the Royal Wedding and Paulines 50th birthday. Stunning views. Special thanks to our weekend planner Louise.

You will be reccommended to many! Thanks from all of us!

Second time around. Weather fantastic - better than August last year & the welcome just as warm! Gill is a gem & the bird feeders have been kept busy all week. We'll be back. Thank you again, Joyce & Stephen, for providing us with such a wonderful stay.
Neil & Maggie, Taunton (Gill Cottage) 22nd April 2011
A beautiful place for a long weekend in spring - just wish we had booked for longer. Thank you for taking such care over the cottages - it shines through in the high quality of it all.
Malcolm, Juliet, James & Lia Horne, Birmingham (Gelt Cottage) 18th April 2011
Just what we all needed! A peaceful & relaxing week in a beautiful location. Some fabulous walks - along the river and into the caves at Wetheral our favourite. Park next to the church and walk right, heading up river, spectacular scenery. We really apreciated being able to spread out and lounge around the cottage and watch the deer & woodpeckers from the dining table. Thank you to you both for your superb hospitality.
Levy family, Telford, Shropshire (Watson Cottage) 15th April 2011
A perfect replacement for a skiing holiday cancelled due to lack of snow. Also allowed two uni students to revise + write as time runs out. Hot tub made this for us - plenty of room for relaxing on the sofas too. Having stayed at very many self catering cottages over the years must praise the quantity and variety of glasses and crockery. What a view & loved watching the lambs frolicking - also a personal highlight was watching the woodpecker at the feeder each morning. Thank you.
Stella, Ian, Chris & Amy Black, Dorking, Surrey (Mill Barn) 15th April 2011
Second visit to 'Tottergill', second cottage 'sampled' - if possible, an even better home - from - home than before; Low Barn's new 'gold' rating is well deserved. Another lovely week, look forward to returning soon.
Phillip, Helen, Sophie & Isobel Clements, Longridge, Lancs (Low Barn) 15th April 2011
I do't want to go home but I will have to just for a rest. I have lost count of the number of times we have visited Tottergill and each time is better than the last. Stephen & Joyce - you put in so much effort and we apreciate all that you do to make our stay here so enjoyable. The girls have swam, swam & swam again! We've visited all our friends and had a great week. We'll be back.
Moira, John, Maddy & Liv Phillips, Leamington Spa (Gelt Cottage) 15th April 2011
Our first visit to Tottergill and we hope it wont be our last! A warm welcome, wonderful views, peaceful and tranquil away from it all. Wonderful weather, but still cold enough at night to enjoy the log fire.
Andy, Karen, Brad + Poppy (black lab), Hants (Gill Cottage) 15th April 2011
Another great week at Tottergill! To find a 'doggy friendly' retreat with great hosts, scenery, walks, food (local), accommodation is amazingly unique. There are many little touches which make such a difference. Tottergill is definately a place to keep re-visiting. Well done Stephen & Joyce and thank you for your lovely welcome!
Jean & Dorothy (Black Lab), Hampshire (Low Barn) 8th April 2011
Its like home from home, but the views are more spectacular, just a little cooler! You cannot beat sitting in the hot tub looking over to the lakes. Joyce & Stephen could not be moree welcoming. This is our second visit and there will definately be a third.
I've had a lovely holiday exploring new areas and smells, chasing rabbits & pheasants!! The lambs are cute and look like fun to play with, but I was well behaved and on a short lead with my owners. Thank you for letting me stay. From Suki (Black Lab)
Tim & Liz Cooke, Terry & Marion Gilmour, Hampshire & Cornwall (Mill Barn) 8th April 2011

Alison & Ian Barr, Paisley (Gill Cottage) 28th March 2011
Thank you so much for a wonderful week away - a much needed break from the fast pace of everyday life. A stunning cottage / conversion with everything you could possibly need for a week away - very well stocked. For us, the icing on the cake has to be the hot tub - a wonderful treat to ease those aching muscles after a hard day mountain biking. Truly wonderful. We can't wait for our next block of annual leave - we'd just love to come back again. Thank you.
Matt & Karen, Morpeth (Watson Cottage) 27th March 2011

Gwen & Russell Smith & Family (Watson, Gelt and Low Barn) 14th March 2011
We have had a lovely weekend, thank you. The cottage is fantastic and we couldnt have asked for more. Although it was a big family gathering (15 of us in total - Watson& Gelt Cottages too) it was a trip down memory lane for me (Sue). I can't believe the open air swimming pool at Lazonby is still there - I went swimming there some 40 years ago! Had a fantastic time and hope to return for a longer stay in the near future.
Sue, Kev & Boys, Rotherham (Low Barn) 13th March 2011
We have thoroughly enjoyed our week here in this lovely peaceful cottage. Thank you for making us feel so welcome and for all the special touches here on our arrival. We would definately agree about the steak pie at The Duke of Cumberland! It was lovely to see the great spotted woodpecker - that was a real treat. A great first visit.
Dave & Heather, Fullwood (Low Barn) 11th March 2011
What a great place - only one problem, our stay wasn't long enough!!! The views - excellent and ever changing. Joyce & Stephen certainly know how to make their guests feel welcome. The family are already working out when we can return. Wonderful. Thanks Peter & Chris Moyes. P.S. Its snowing!!! :)

Karen, Isobel, Eve & Mathew Travers & Suzelle Bent, Leigh, Lancs (Mill Barn) 25th Feruary 2011
Loved Watson Cottage, best we've ever stayed in, & beautiful views as getting meals ready. The hot tub was fab, but I will want one at every cottage I ever stay in!! Did some great walks - Park at Once Brewed and walk east along wall. - Allen Banks (east along A69) about 12 miles - beautiful riverside walk. - Up behind this cottage picking up yellow markers around fields then into Castle Carrock pub for lunch. - Carlisle Museum & Castle great for kids if wettish day. Take care lighting log fire if the slightest bit of wind, but great when not. A wonderful week for us all to relax, thanks so much.
Mullin Family, Cheshire (Watson Cottage) 25th February 2011
What a fantastic place. The cottage is beautiful with everything you need. You instantly relax. Such a welcome when you arrive, fantastic cakes, they lasted about five minutes. We will definately be back and are already planning our next trip. We visited The Blacksmiths at Talkin, delicious food. We watched the stars on a very clear night, so amazing. Sam even saw a shooting star. So sad to have to go home but as we said 'we will be back'. Thank you Steve & Joyce for making such a perfest place.
Kym, Sam & Chris Thompson, Whitley Bay (Gelt Cottage) 25th February 2011
Lovely house, great hot tub, and thank you for the lovely cakes on arrival. We had a wonderful and relaxing break!!!
Elayne, Forbes, Helen & Loise Manson, Cheshire (Mill Barn) 21st February 2011
We all needed a break - and this was as close to heaven as we could get! Thanks so much! Wonderful cottage, welcome & surroundings. Celebrated our wedding anniversary and had a fabulous relaxing day!
Went for miles of walks with Catta and Karsten enjoyed running up and down the hills.
Visited local towns, Carlisle, Keswick & Brampton as well as Talkin.
Can highly recommend the local "the Duke of Cumberland" for excellent food & good wine / beer on tap. Karsten loved the slides at Walby Farm Park. We are definately visiting again THIS YEAR - hopefully in October - will try a cottage with a hot tub. All in all - EXCUISITE! Taking brochures to all our friends!
Heinz, Sonja, Karsten Schulenburg & Cattia (German Shepherd), Walefield (Low Barn) 18th February 2011

A beautiful cottage in an absolutely stunning setting - the perfect place to spend our Valentines weekend! The red roses & home baking on arrival were just perfect! Spent a day driving through the Lake District & dinner at The Pheasant Inn which was lovely. Have already recommended to firends!!

This week has gone too fast! It was great to start our holiday with such lovely chocolate cup cakes and a cup of tea courtesy of Stephen & Joyce. The cottages are beautiful and have brought back some amazing memories. We will definately be back, hopefully next time with the whole family. We would highly recommend The Blacksmiths Inn' in Talkin village. A great atmosphere and equally nice food. Thank you for making our holiday so special.
Lauren & Nick Reedman, Mansfield, (Gelt Cottage) 11th February 2011
Having been before, there is a concern that second time around will not live up to expectations. However, just as good. A truly relaxing short break.
Jan & Sandy Thomson, East Lothian (Garth Cottage) 11th February 2011
The cottage is absolutely beautiful with amazing views. Equipped with everything you could possibly need. A great place to spend a holiday. Lovely welcome with cupcakes were an added bonus.
The Bennets, Mills & Barkers, North Leeds (Watson Cottage) 7th February 2011
A last minute decision to get away from it all, and it turned out to be a great one! The two of us plus Daisy our three year old daughter have enjoyed it so much we want to move to Castle Carrock! Not sure that will ever happen, but we will be back here and soon! Peaceful walks, drinks and good food in 'The Duke', log fire when we got home to thaw us out! Many thanks both.
Rob, Vicky & Daisy Pallister, Birmingham (Gill Cottage) 31st January 2011
What a fantastic place to spend a wet & wild winters 50th birthday weekend! Thank you!

Marlene & Ian Corker, Ross on Wye (Garth Cottage) 14th January 2011
An earlier comment summed up the cottage perfectly, 'not just a holiday home-but a home' and it really feels like that. So sad to be leaving. Such peace and quiet and luxury in stunning surroundings. We feel totally chilled! Loved star gazing from the hot tub - enjoyed the 'Gelt Woods' walk and a stroll around 'Talkin Tarn'. Everyone is so friendly up here. Thanks Stephen & Joyce for a fantastic stay-we will be back for sure!
Steve & Jayne Hookham, Leeds (Watson Cottage) 10th January 2011
We came to Tottergill on our bi annual pilgrimage to getaway cottages, we had our best time ever. Beautiful cottages, beautiful views, hot tub was an amazing addition. Thanks Stephen & Joyce!!
The Jones Party, Wawickshire (Mill Barn, Low Barn, Gelt & Gill Cottages) 7th January 2011
Beautiful location, amazing scenery, wonderful walks and pubs within walking distance. We saw the deer and left carrots to encourage them. Lovely to see them (we squeeled with excitement)! We've had a badger, a fox, some hares and an abundance of birds sharing the garden. Jacuzzi a great place for star gazing and sipping champagne. Had a wonderful week, Watson Cottage has become an instant favourite and we'll be back. Would recommend the Queen Inn at Great Corby, really lovely food and friendly hosts. We're checking the lottery numbers, when they come up, can we buy the other half of the barn and make our home another Watson please?? Love it - its a cracking place to stay.
Prescott, Mansfield (Watson Cottage) 3rd January 2010
Thank you for an excellent weeks relaxation over the new year, the most magical way to see in the new year - by drinking champagne in the hot tub and watching the wildlife. Watching the deer eat the carrots we brought, all the birds and pheasants - just totally beautiful. Thanks to Stephen & Joyce for providing such a wonderful cottage - I just want to live here! Enjoyed our walks from the cottage around the lake, also Talkin Tarn is a lovely walk. Ate at The Weary.....would reccomend the Queen Inn - Great Corby, lovely service, atmosphere, delicious food. Thank You.
Jo & Steve Baron, Mansfield (Watson Cottage) 3rd January 2010
Thanks for the warm welcome and the beautiful cottage to stay in. We have had the most fabulous Christmas for a long time. The snow when we arrived made it magical. The children have had a great time and I think we shall all remember the sledging on Christmas day when the snow was falling. 'Happy New Year' to you both.
Sharon, Rob, Michelle, Cody & Junior, Doncaster(Low Barn) 30th December 2010
Another lovely Christmas at Tottergill. Great welcome from Stephen & Joyce and the cottage is fab. Highly recommend 'The Pheasant', good food & lovely people. See you again soon.
Simon, Tracy & Oliver, Sheffield (Gelt Cottage) 29th December 2010
A very warm welcome - a lovely 'cottage' with super views across the countryside. A white Christmas and bitterly cold outside - but with the log burner, very warm and snug inside. We have enjoyed watching the birds feeding outside (including woodpeckers) and have done some walking from the door. We found 'The Duke of Cumberland' in the village to be a friendly pub. Have enjoyed our stay - we hope to return. A happy new year to one and all.
Carol, Eric and Angela Roberts, North Wales and Chester (Garth Cottage) 28th December 2010
Superb! A fantastic cottage in a beautiful location, such a high spec cottage, everything we required was here. Our thanks to Joyce & Stephen for providing a relaxing peaceful setting & seeing the deer / wildlife was an added bonus. The cottages are in an ideal position for touring the Lake District etc and we would most definately recommend this to family and friends etc. After a long drive up from Kent on our first day, the home comforts of milk, tea, and home made mince pies were gratefully received. Lastly may we say thank you for erecting the Christmas tree & for the present that we found under it, a very thoughtful touch. We would love to come back soon.
Christine, David, Clynton & Dawn, Isle of Sheppey, Kent (Watson Cottage) 27th December 2010

Location, Location, Location!! What more can I say except - spacious, spotless, luxurious and inspiring!! We loved the views, the upstairs lounge, the raised kitchen and of course the hot tub. We hope we can return in the summer if it is not all booked up after these comments!

I loved the cottage. I loved the sheep being outside my window. I loved the pool and walking along Hadrian's Wall.
We have all had a great time. Cottage exceptional quality and the extras are a lovely touch. Try the local real ale (which can be bought at the Brewery in Brampton). Nice meal at The Duke of Cumberland and breakfast at Jacobites in Brampton. Lanercost is good for lunch. We had an exiting trip to Carlisle Castle and Tullie museum. Weather mixed however a few lovely days meant we were on Lake Windermere on boat trip. Talkin Tarn well worth a visit. Thanks for a wonderful holiday and we hope to be back soon.

A great week again! Both weather and holiday cottage up to its usual high standards and we managed to find the Toffee Shop in Penrith to take home some goodies. Came across the Talkin Tarn Country Park a few days ago which we very much enjoyed. A day spent out of the car and only 10 mins drive up the road. Thanks again. See you soon.

We have had a fantastic week here, lots of sunshine, wonderful views. The hot tub was very welcoming & big enough for everyone. The cottage was very well equipped but the extra touches made our stay. Only problem - one week is not enough!! Hope to return next year.
The White family, including Sheba(dog) & Mother in law, Cam, Gloucestershire (Mill Barn) 3rd September 2010
We were onlyhere a week and we didnt have enough time to do all the things we had planned - looks like we will have to come back! No great hardship - Watson is fabulous. You have put so much effort and thought into it. This isn't a holiday home, it is a home. Thank you.

Keith & Faye Rigby & Charlie the pug, Tyne & Wear (Gill Cottage) 23rd of August 2010
An imaculate house, which were all soon calling 'home', provided a lovely base and setting for our efforts to complete the truly awesome Hadrian's Wall; and in mostly glorious weather. This is a place to live in - in memories as well as in the present. Memorable, and we hope to be repeated. G.M.
A wonderful house to spend a week to relax in. We will be back next year.
The Meads & The Greenslades, Owslebury, Winchester (Watson Cottage) 20th August 2010
Thank you for such a great stay. You have thought of everything in the cottage to ensure a very comfortable stay and the beautiful kitchen and bathroom are absolutely fab. The area and views - well what can you say - breathtaking from every angle but within spitting distance (well not quite) of shopping facilities for teenage girlies. The local town of Brampton was charming and the sort of place that one could get everything from.
So Joyce, Stephen & Steph, keep up the good work but dont work too hard. Its been a pleasure to meet you all. Keep in touch and we look forward to seeing you in October.
With our love Ian, Jo, Lydia, Eleanor & Madeline.
The Newton Family, Halesworth, Suffolk (Gelt Cottage) 20th August 2010
"Possess, as I possessed a season
The countries I resign,
Where over elmy plains the highway
Would mount the hills and shine,
And full of shade the pillared forest
Would murmur and be mine."
A.E. Housman
Exceptionally good holiday - probably the best accommodation we have ever had and a beautiful fascinating area.

Had a lovely week at Tottergill, as peaceful as we remembered it. The ever changing view & the bird life kept us entertained!
Graham & Ann Siddall & Tilly, Sheffield (Gill Cottage) 20th August 2010
We have had a lovely time. The accommodation was faultless and we loved waking up to the sound of sheep gently bleating rather than traffic roaring. Had fantastic weather - in T shirts most days. The girls loved Talkin Tarn, boating in Ullswater, shopping in Carlisle and spotting rabbits. We found the Duke of Cumberland a great 'local' and managed to get there most nights at 7pm for a drink and game of cards. The pool at the 'Crown' is really good and visited there 3 or 4 times. Jacobites is great for a light linch in Brampton and if you are staying in and fancy a pie, the butchers in Brampton does great pies. All in all, we all loved it here, the shortbread was demolished in five minutes - Thank you, you have a great place. We will definately be back!!
Catherine & Lee, Amelia & Madeline, Pinner, Middlesex (Gelt Cottage) 16th August 2010

The Thorp family, Ilkley (Garth Cottage) 30th July 2010
Thankyou so much for a lovely stay; superb accommodation, a very warm and friendly welcome and....THE VIEW!! I was sat here last night watching the sun go down and I felt I'd seen a small piece of heaven! We will return, hopefully in the autumn, but definately next spring. Thankyou!
Paul, Collette, Natasha & Jack Rossington & Neil Pickersgill, Denton, Manchester (Low Barn) 26th July 2010
I am sitting at the patio table after breakfast taking a last look at the Cumbrian hills and the sun bathed plain below. Blue tits, Goldfinches, Great tits, Nuthatches and Greater Spotted Woodpeckers visit the regularly stocked feeder to my left (thanks for providing the bird spotting book by the way). Never having been to this corner of England before we expected it to be a good base to visit 'the lakes', how wrong we were. Everything here is a true delight and this is where we spent most of our time. The location is fantastic. If Stephen & Joyce could have controlled the weather, it too would have been impecable. "A half empty reservoir was full by Tuesday. We did visit 'the lakes' on Monday when the rain was heaviest - even that had its own majesty as we saw waterfalls that did not even exist the day before. The weather also gave me a chance to use the log burner, I had forgotten how good it feels to make a fire. Dear Stephen & Joyce - we are determined to come and see you again and we will try to bring all the family and dogs next time. All the best.
Graeme, Sue, Marie & Darcey, Bottesford, Lincs (Low Barn) 23rd July 2010
OK - the weather has at times been a bit grim, but we have managed to get out and about to Lakes, Carlisle, Allen Banks, Hexham etc. We still love the cottages and views - wish you could bottle Tottergill. Thanks to you both, we hope to return. Keep up the good work. Good luck for the next awards - you deserve recognition.
Susan & Nigel Crick, Barnsley (Garth Cottage) 23rd July 2010
Wonderful welcome, wonderful stay. We certainly got the max out of it & didn't spend much time in bed. Extra large woodpecker obviously likes it here too.
Ann & Freda, Lancashire (Gill Cottage) 19th July 2010
Our breath was taken away when we found ourselves here last Friday. The views, the peace and quiet and what a lovely cottage with all the extra touches to make it feel like home.
Carlos has loved watching the birds at the feeders., Alex trying to avoid the sheep with the football Ana the games in the cupboard and the use of the local leisure club. As for me - I'm feeling quite relaxed and city life seems a million miles away. I'm sure it's only 'hast luego' and not 'adios'.
Alison, Carlos, Alex & Ana, Madrid, Spain 15th July 2010 (Garth Cottage)
Our fourth visit to Tottergill. As ever, the warmest of welcomes extended and hospitality second to none. This has been and will continue to be our annual event only next time we look forward to staying in the new Watson Cottage as the children are growing too quickly! All the new and enhanced improvements in the cottage are first class. See you next year.
Paul, Patricia, Charis, Christopher & Michael (Gelt Cottage) 16th July 2010
This is a lovely house with great views. I loved it because there was a TV in every room...that's not the only good bit, the hot tub was awesome...we spent hours in there. The sound on the main TV was wicked...over all an awsomely awesome house. I had a great time.
The Rapinet Family, Sussex & Berkshire (Watson Cottage) 16th July 2010

We have enjoyed our stay at Watson Cottage, the bed was big enough for 6 people, so we had a good rest.
Watson, Skegness (Watson Cottage) 14th June 2010
The hardest thing to do in this cottageis to leave, it is like home, very comfortable, everything you need. Having used it for a base for walking Hadrians Wall Path, the hot tub was invaluable, that with the alcohol managed to ease the pain each night. The views are stunning, the countryside is beautiful! Only complaint, where was the sun, it is supposed to be June! Thank you for everything, you deserve your award, we most definately will be back. Tim & Liz.
I'd like to add an extra thanks to those of Tim. Nigel & I have enjoyed a delightful break here and despite the blisters & aching legs, thoroughly enjoyed walking Hadrians Wall too. The hot tub was a great bonus at the end of the day& eased us into comfortable beds for much needed sleep. We will recommend you to friends & family & hopefully return to walk more of this beautiful part of England. Susie.
Tim & Liz Cook, Nigel & Susuie Palmer, Norah & Desmond Harper, Catherine Bate & Suki the black lab, Cornwall, Hampshire, Berkshire & Yarm (Mill Barn) 11th June 2010
A lovely, peaceful place in a most beautiful setting. Walking Hadrians Wall over the last five days has been amazing but left us little time to enjoy this wonderful cottage - apart from resting weary limbs in the evening. I am sure we will return to explore the area more. Thank you.
Tricia & Geoff Meads, Hampshire (Garth Cottage) 11th June 2010
Lovely, peaceful setting. The cake, fudge and essential provisions were very welcome - thank you. Dotty loved ot too. Access to the internet was very useful, I was pleased this was available. Will recommend and most likely will be back again.

Bernie & Maureen Smith, Harrogate (Gill Cottage) 4th June 2010
Fabulous location, accommodation great. Especially enjoyed the area around Lanercost Priory - very peaceful. Duke of Cumberland - very good 'pub' grub and The Weary more expensive but good. A very nice break & the dog loved it.

Another very restful enjoyable break our 7th here. Weather somewhat chilly but lovely views as ever. Had a meal at The Duke of Cumberland in Castle Carrock, re opened after 12 years and enjoyed it.

Last here (Mill Barn) in 2001 and it's even better! Due to the amazing welcome, flowers, cakes etc from Stephen & Joyce, we also noticed many improvements. Details like filling the bird feeders when required make a holiday into a special one. Definately will be returning, hopefully to Mill Barn with our family and Watson (it's amazing!) with friends. Will definately recommend!
Jack & Joan Dixon, Scholes Nr. Leeds (Low Barn) 30th April 2010

Reshma, Akshay, Rigel Sule & Friends, Cheshire (Gelt Cottage) 19th April 2010
What a truly great week we have had here! The cottage is top quality, extremely clean and what a nice welcome - biscuits, fudge and flowers. We have come on holiday with our 22 month old boy Jack and we are extremely impressed with the facilities provided for a baby/toddler. Jack has loved waking up to the ''sheepies'' every morning and Walby Farm is a must-do for those with kids. We all spent a fab day there. So sad to be going home tomorrow, but going home in the knowledge we are already planning our next trip here. Had a comfortable, relaxing stay in lovely surroundings. Thank you!
Russell, Sarah & Jack Herdis, Edinburgh (Gelt Cottage) 16th April 2010
A first visit to Tottergill for us, hopefully not the last. Weather very kind to us; a week of dry days - several of them sunny! - meant that we got to fully appreciate the fabulous views, descriptions of which could barely do them justice. We combined days out (Hadrian's Wall, Caerlaverock & Carlisle) with more local excursions (Talkin Tarn, Brampton) and the walks around the reservoir and up the fell. The birds in the garden were fantastic, also the ducks/geese on the reservoir and the treecreeper down the drive. Very comfortable cottage... almost regret that it wasn't cold enough to need the fire! Thank you for a super relaxing break.
Philip, Helen, Sophie & Isabel Clements, Lancashire (Garth Cottage) 16th April 2010
Lovely week - went far too quickly! Weather was great and enjoyed sitting out on decking and watching the sun go down. Hot tub a real treat and an opportunity for family discussion and debate. No one argues in the hot tub! Would love to come again.
Rob, Fiona, Matthew, Ewan & Isobel, Durham (Mill Barn) 16th April 2010

Debbie, Glyn, Beth & Riley, Derbyshire (Gill Cottage) 9th April 2010
What a lovely place... everything is such high standard - a real pleasure to holiday here. Thank you x. If anything, hooks by the hot tub may be useful for towels - just an observation, not a criticism!
David & Grace Metcalfe, Ingleton, North Yorks. (Watson Cottage) 9th April 2010
We had a very comfortable, enjoyable week here - lots of great cycling and tasty food stops en route. Thank you for the easter eggs also - a very generous touch. A lovely part of the world to visit. Thanks.

Fantastic! Our 6th stay here.
Christie & Keith Huffman, Great Falls, VA, USA (Garth Cottage) 1st April 2010
One of many of our visits to Tottergill, the place just gets better. Made up our minds to come this weekend at 5.20pm Friday, by six was on the road and coming north. The food at 'The Duke' (Castle Carrock) is cooking with passion by a young female chef. Probably the best Ploughman's I have ever had.
Mike & Jan Brimacombe & Dogs, Gloucestershire (Gill Cottage) 28th March 2010
We must hold the world record for staying at Tottergill - 7 weeks since November '09! There is a reason: it became our temporary home following flooding of our house at the same time as the Cockermouth deluge. We are returning to our home today and are sad to be leaving the calm and tranquility and the kindness of Joyce and Stephen.
Susan & Michael Fox, Carlisle (Gelt Cottage) 26th March 2010
Lovely to be back, had a lovely week, weather has not been too bad and enjoyed a relaxing break, thanks to Stephen and Joyce for the lovely welcome as usual, we'll be back again next year as we love coming here. Thanks for having us.
Pat and Jim Hawkyard, Newcastle-upon-Tyne (Low Barn) 26th March 2010
Thank you again for another lovely visit. The cottage never disappoints - so warm & comfortable. The weather was mixed but the log burner such a delight that it doesn't matter - we hope to be back again soon.

Had a lovely weekend, great cottage and very peaceful. Thank you.
Gary and Helen, Nottigham (Gelt Cottage) 1st March 2010
What a wonderful weekend we have had. The cottage is beautiful, providing us with everything we needed and more. What better way to end the day than in the fantastic hot tub, looking up at the stars. The homemade cakes were delicious and just the energy booster we needed during our walk in the Lake District. We can't wait to come back, in fact we are already planning a return visit next year. (to celebrate Anna's 41st birthday, but sshhh, don't tell her I said that, she tells everyone she's 28!)
Jenny Wright & Co. Derbyshire/Staffordshire (Mill Barn) 21st Febraury 2010
Had a wonderful weekend away!! Would definately reccommend the cottages to our friends and family, as they are top quality. Thank you, Adam & Hannah.
Hannah Hairsine & Adam Robinson, Rudston, Yorkshire (Gelt Cottage) 21st February 2010
Lovely to see a Great Spotted Woodpecker, also we saw a pheasant. We made a mistake and went down a mud trail and rescued by Stephen who luckily had a tractor and pulled us out. And had a fantastic time running around the field with Yasmine. Definately be back some time soon x
Mike, Tess, Olivia, Jonathan & Yasmine. Wilmslow, Cheshire (Low Barn) 21st February 2010
We have had the best cottage holiday so far here! Spectacular views from the living and bedrooms to wake up to. The children said you "were the best ever." The bird feeders were fantastic and really made it for us as we loved seeing gold finches and woodpeackers and the pheasant with his harem. All the lovely touches in the cottage meant we had to bring nothing extra from home! Brilliant. We look forward to another visit!
Fiona & Paul, Alexander & Ciara Charlton. Manchester (Garth Cottage) 20th February 2010
We've had a lovely relaxing old fashioned family holiday...lots of walks in the hills, cosy nights in by the fire, good meals and played lots of board games... we've even baked cakes! The cottage is wonderful - with everything you could need for a perfect holiday...The welcome biscuits and flowers were just the icing on the cake...Thank you for a wonderfil holiday x

Had a lovely time once again...See you again, Joyce and Steve - thank you!

Thank you for a lovely weekend. We particularly enjoyed a full day's walk, from Housesteads along the wall to Twice Brewed for lunch, then back to the car via the Vindolanda. We ate at The Weary (pretty good), at The Phesant (great home cooking, lovely fire and service) and had a good value carvery Sunday lunch at the Blacksmith's at Talkin. P.S We too want out own HOT TUB now.

This is our first visit to Tottergill and it has been a very memorable stay, our son's wedding in Comlogoncastle, and then back to the cottage to rewind and find out just how tired we all were. We never needed for anything as it is like home all mod cons and comfort. We would like to thank Joyce and Steve for a lovely holiday and plan to come back again with Millie our dog.

Sue Hargreaves, Les Hortensias, France. (Gill Cottage) 27th December 2009
Extremely nice hosts. Couldn't do enough for us - especially gritting the road every day. Excellent cottage, very comfortable and everything provided. The shortbread and flapjacks were an excellent touch. Sledging was also great, despite the bumps and bruises. Many thanks. Jane and Vincent.
Jane, Vincent & Emma, Brighton, E. Sussex (Low Barn Cottage) 27th December 2009
Not so much a holiday - more a refuge from our flooded house. However, with the view, the tranquility and cosy cottage, it soon became a relaxing break. Back to a stripped house!
Susan & Mike Fox, Carlisle. (Gill Cottage) 18th December 2009
Marie and Frances told me about Totergill and we came for Christmas Shopping. When they explain about here they can not do justice to the beautiful, breathtaking views, old buildings and of course frances's "oak tree." Stephen and Joyce have got it right. The cottages are perfect, welcoming and homely and they are fantastic hosts. I have had a wonderful stay and will be back, same place, same time, next year. Thank you!
June, Ellesmere Port, Wirral (Garth Cottage) 11th December 2009
Third visit this year - not much time spent at the cottage this time - Christmas Shopping - Steve and I will be back next year, hope to get some walks in next time. Thanks Joyce and Steve for the usual high standard and the flowers and ''goodies'' on arrival. God bless you both and family xxx

Many thanks for a much needed relaxing break. Accomodation was just perfect and the scenery breath taking. The welcome tray with home baking was much appreciated after our long journey and the fresh flowers a lovely finishing touch. This was our first visit to Tottergill and way exceeded our expectations with fantastic views and walks, sheep in your back garden and a very friendly welcome on our arrival, we have had a very relaxing few days. The cottage was perfect and the cosiest place we have ever stayed. The homemade 'fifteens' on our arrival were to die for! We will be back ... with friends and family. Thank you so much.
Amanda, Paul & Andrew Atkinson & Black Labrador; Jack, Durham (Low Barn) - 12th October 2009
This was our first visit to Cumbria & Tottergill ... what a wonderful place and what a warm and friendly welcome we recieved from Stephen & Joyce, and our lovely little Gill Cottage was the icing on the cake... Warm, cosy and the decor very tasteful, the birds, especially that 'Fat Pheasant', the views ... well we shall miss it all and hopefully be back soon.

To Joyce & Steve. You have made our holiday a very pleasant one. The accomodation is superb, with a wonderful setting, your warm welcome as we arrived and home made biscuits. That's the way to do it. Our second time in Tottergill, first in cosy little Gill Cottage. Like everyone else we love the peace, the views, the huge skies, the birds and the welcome from Stephen & Joyce. We've tried all 3 walks in the cottage book plus Talkin Tarn and a long one along the Pennine Way from Alston - all delightful in different ways. A beautiful area. Thank you. (We loved the cakes too!)
Stella & Norman, Cardiff, Wales (Gill Cottage) - 3rd October 2009
This is our 2nd visit to Tottergill (Low Barn Cottage) we first visited in May for my birthday, and we have looked forward to returning since. Again we have had a wonderful time met with a lovely welcome from Stephen & Joyce.
We visited Hadrian's Wall again this time Northumberland National Park (Housesteads Roman Fort) where we took a guided tour, we had a great time & the dogs loved it too. Thirlwall Castle was interesting. We visited Talkin Tarn again and enjoyed a pastry or two : ). We enjoyed a bargain at the Cumwhitton Festival. What a treat when we spotted two deer grazing in the field at Tottergill!
The tranquility, the wildlife, the beautiful cottages, we will most definitely be back.
P.S The home made Cappuccino cupcakes left for our welcome at Low Barn Cottage were very tasty!
P.P.S the lyrics game is brill!

What a wonderful retreat with outstanding views and facilities. We are very grateful for all the help and assistance provided by Joyce & Stephen and have been made to feel most welcome. The Metcalfs & Asberry's Staffs and Leicester (Mill Barn)- 28th September 2009
For us this has been a superb location with views, walks, tranquility - so difficult to leave such a wonderful part of the UK. So much to discover within a short distance - Hadrian's Wall, Eden Valley, Geltdale, Gelt Woods - we didn't have time to go to the Lakes!!! despite being here for 2 weeks. Found some fantastic tearooms - try Wetheral & Lanercost Priory, Megs Tearoom. Accommodation - so homely and had everything and more than we expected "5 STAR"! We really hope to come back.
Julie & Chris Lawrence, Lichfield, Staffs (Gelt Cottage)- 25th September 2009
Thankyou for a relaxing few days in your lovely cottage and the friendly welcome. You made it seem nothing was too much trouble - thank you. This has been the cosiest and most comfortable cottage we've stayed in and we will certainly recommend it to others.
Norman & Colette Aldrich, Co. Durham (Garth Cottage)- 25th September 2009
Our second visit this year. Once again the cottage proved to be a cozy, comfortable base for visiting many fascinating places. Meg loves the garden, and we enjoyed bird-watching from the comfort of the cottage. Apart from the many birds, we saw a hare and deer this visit.
David & Rosemary Ketley (& Meg), Sharington, Cheshire (Low Barn) - 25th September 2009
Really enjoyed our visit to Gill Cottage. Lovely cosy cottage with amazing views and delicious treats on arrival. Jack was a particular fan of the water wheel (or the wheel water as he liked to call it!). Thank you for making us so welcome - we hope to come again!
Kathryn, James and Jack, Wellington, Somerset. (Gill Cottage) - 22nd September 2009
We have had the most relaxing week here in Low Barn. The weather has been fantastic (not a drop of rain!) and the views, in particular the sunsets have been beautiful. We have enjoyed walks around 'Talkin Tarn' and alongside the river at Armathwaite and Coombs Wood. Brampton supplied us with all the goodies we needed for our cosy nights in in front of the fire! Thank you so much, we will be back!
Carolyn & Nigel, Bolton, Lancashire. (Low Barn Cottage) - 18th September 2009
Just wanted to say 'thank you' for such a lovely week! Loved the cottage, was great. I needed to be dragged away especially from the log fire. The views are brilliant and we have had the opportunity to go on many walks. Even as we leave we are planning our next stay with you. Thank you once again for such a lovely stay.
Melissa & David Seabridge, Abingdon, Oxford. (Garth Cottage) - 18th September 2009

Penny & Gordon Wren & Nell. N.Yorks. (Low Barn) - 11th September 2009
A wonderful week. Weather during the first weekend did not deter us from what we wanted to do. So many things to do and see. Only drawback was that we didn't see Red Squirrels despite several concentrated attempts to sight them. It was like being at home for a week with added extras in the form of wildlife and varied things to do. Excellent accommodation. Well set out and organised. Hope to return next year. Cannot fault anything. The pastries and welcome pack was a wonderful touch. Will recommend the area to many people when we return home and certainly recommend Tottergill for it's charm and friendly and helpful advice and thoughtfulness.
Paul & Linda Pickett, Graham & Denise Wheatley. Peterborough. (Garth Cottage) - 11th September 2009
Lovely cottage, great holiday, amazing views, wonderful Rocky Road!, hedge-eating sheep, woodpecker on nuts (& pheasant!) Thank you!! Didn't want to leave, dogs grew quite attached to the place - as did we; would like to come back again. (Enjoyed the lyrics game aswell, lots of fun!) The week went too fast! xxx
John, Jo, Lianne & Hadleigh (Moppet & Pippin). Coxbench, Derbyshire (Low Barn) - 4th September 2009
A very comfortable and well equipped cottage - every requirement has been anticipated. We loved the fabulous views - our only regret is that we did not have the weather to sit out and enjoy them. Although we did manage to use the hot tub on our one fine evening and it was a fantastic experience. The weather did not prevent us getting out and about and we found the cottage well situated for following Reiver history and tracking down our ancestors. In fact there is so mcuh to do here we may have to come back for another visit! - hopefully with some sunshine. Thanks for a memorable holiday.
I liked the water wheel. - Daniel, Age 7

Fantastic, could not have wished for more, very welcoming, the cottage was beautiful, and the log fire was a welcome change to the electric one at home, many hours spent in the jacuzzi looking over a sensational view.
We were here to celebrate my partners 50th, we had three cottages in total so there were fourteen of us, we partied all weekend and enjoyed the local activities, paintballing, shooting, golf, horse riding and even went to the local car show. Of all the places / cottages I looked for to celebrate my Mums 50th birthday, I could not have picked a more perfect place! She was thrilled to be here, and could only have wished we stayed for a further 5 days.
We have visited Nenthead mines which was a great / cold & wet but funny experience, and we also recommend 'The Weary' for food, the bar lady was very kind. Well done Stephen & Joyce. Thank you. Kayleigh.

We went down Nenthead Mines, we went to the beach and it was really really windy, we went to Walby Farm Park and it was great . We fed the lambs milk, saw day old chicks and ducklings, we held one of the kittens. The hot tub at night was a wonderful sight, saw loads of stars and the great bear. Would love to come back. Once again worth the long drive for the view, birds and peace and quiet. Well equipped comfortable accommodation. Loads of places to visit, whatever the weather. Never enough days to fit it all in. Hoping to return. A strange place to visit on holiday but Houghton Hall Garden Centre on the outskirts of Carlisle is worth a visit, if only for the restaurant and farm shop. Have seen woodpeckers, nuthatches, pheasants, red squirrel, swans on the road and a hare in the field.
Marian & Geoff Day, Ipswich, Suffolk - 20th September 2008 (Garth Cottage)

Anybody looking for a nice place to eat, we had some great food from the bar menu at 'The Weary'. We won't hesitate in recommending 'Tottergill' as a good holiday destination.

Vincent, Alexandra & Baby Cormac, Roker, Sunderland - 20th August 2008 (Gill cottage)

The leisure club was a bonus and we used the swimming pool, squash courts and gym during our stay. Talkin Tarn was one of our favourites and great for the dog. Our boys really enjoyed the fishing at New Mills Trout Farm and provided us with tea! Our little one enjoyed Walby Farm Park. A great house in a great location!
The Boyd family & Sparkie the dog, York - 16th August 2008 (Mill Barn)
We were really overwhelmed with the surroundings and the overall standard of the cottage. The 'impotant information' was very useful, it certainly made us make the most of our week. We visited Hadrian's Wall, Gretna Green, Brampton, Carlisle, Keswick, Ullswater Lake, Wetherall and of course Castle Carrock. We swam at the Crown Hotel 3 times and found the staff and facilities first rate. We had lunch 3 times at the Weary Sportsman in Castle Carrock and were really impressed by the food and excellent service on each occasion. In particular we found our hosts Stephen & Joyce very warm and friendly and Tottergill Farm very welcoming. It was a very special holiday for us as it was our first as a family and Finlay took his first steps in the cottage aged 1 year & 1 week. Thank you once again Tottergill Farm for a lovely holiday!
Tony, Jo, Bradley & Finlay Barrett, Taunton, Somerset - 15th August 2008 (Gelt cottage)

We hope to be back with the rest of the family. Thanks Angela & Mark.

Thoroughly enjoyable family holiday spent in first class, well equipped accommodation enhanced by the welcoming touches provided by Joyce and Stephen. Picturesque situation, surrounded by the sights, sounds and smells of the country-side. Hope we might be able to return at some date in the future.
The Hendry family, Aberdeen - 14th June 2008 (Mill Barn)
A spectacular place to stay for beautiful views and well equipped to a high standard, comfortable cottage. We notice many improvements to the grounds since our last visit and appreciate the wooden garden furniture and the digital TV, but most of all the new bird feeders have given us hours of entertainment watching the great variety of birds.
Roger & Elizabeth Pikett, Billericay, Essex - 14th June 2008 (Low Barn)
Our 11th visit to Tottergill - been coming since 1996. We love it here, this visit we have had amazing weather - warm at the start - then cooling off - but we have always been comfortable in the cottage. We have particularly enjoyed the birds on the feeders and the lovely skies. We no doubt will be back. Thank you both - keep up the good work.
Susan & Nigel Crick, Barnsley - 14th June 2008 (Garth Cottage)
We all really enjoyed our week's stay at Tottergill Farm. Five of our party of 12 completed the Hadrian's Wall Path during the week - 84 miles in 5 days - and I'm sure we wouldn't have managed it without the hot showers and comfy beds to return to each night. The rest of the party spent their time on more gentle walks along the Wall - and doing some serious quality-checking on local cream teas! One thing at Toittergill that suited us really well was that we were able to put together several tables in one of the units, so that we could all 12 of us eat together at one long table each night! Everyone reckoned Tottergill was a great place, and I'm sure you'll get some repeat bookings. We also learning that a week is far too short a time to explore the Tyne and Eden Valleys.
The Marsden party, Buckinghamshire - 7th June 2008 (Low Barn, Garth & Gelt cottages)
We had a wonderful time, the cottages were very nice to stay in. We would all love to visit again.
Freddie, Anne, & Cyrus Billimoria, Swindon - 7th June 2008 (Gill Cottage)
After reading the other comments here, what more is there to say?! We are first - timers, but we can already say we'll be back! A fantastic set of cottages, all so well equipped and flexible accommodation. We are part of a larger party sharing 4 cottages & we have been able to eat together each evening, and enjoy drinks in the gardens. The sunsets have been fabulous and the fact that they go on well past 11 pm is another bonus. We have enjoyed spotting the Wabbits by the wall and the stubborn sheep who own the road. Thank you for a lovely week, the best part being able to come back from our latest leg of Hadrian's Wall to a hot shower & a chilled glass of wine , and on some nights a roaring fire too! Thanks Hazel & Mark.
Hazel Marsden & Mark Hughes, St. Albans, Herts - 7th June 2008 (Garth Cottage)

Jim & Irene Turnbull, Fife; The Yates family, Sheffield; Mark & Susan Walker, Glasgow - 6th June 2008 (Mill Barn)
Had nice week, leisure facilities are fantastic, the pub - 'The Queen Inn' in Great Corby is brilliant. The property is nice but the thing that stands out is the view you get from the balcony of the reservoir.
When you're here you must go to 'The Crown Hotel' to go swimming because there is a mini pool, a large pool, a jacuzzi and a sauna all new and fully functioning. I want to come back but it depends on whether my parents can get the time off work. Great. Ewan Hill (age 12)
It was brilliant. Isobel Hill (age 9)
It has been very very good, I am glad I came! Mathew Hill (age 18)

No red squirrels seen this holiday unfortunately but I did see a deer in the field and a very large hare also in the field and up on the fell behind Tottergill. Hope to visit again soon.

Lovely to sit by the log fire (poetic license - wood burning stove) and listen to the wind blowing outside. I drove into Carlisle and found my way out (with a little help from an AA man!). Reccommend Talkin Tarn & Houghton Hall garden centre - especially the food hall. Would love to come back in the autumn. I bet it's spectacular.

We first came to Tottergill ten years ago & upon returning we realised we had obviously forgotten how lovely it is or we'd have been back much sooner. Had a good chill out weekend just watching the fire & the rain - one of the quieter parts of my 40th birthday celebrations! Enjoyed watching all the birds, especially the woodpeckers. Had a fantastic meal at 'The Weary' - good recommendation, felt like a swish city restaurant in the heart of the countryside - fab food + fab service +decor. Still didn't manage to walk round the lake - the fire was just too inviting...maybe next time! Forgot our swim things, so we are looking forward to trying out the leisure club too. Really enjoyable, peaceful & relaxing break in lovely countryside. See you soon.

This is our first time to this area and we are totally hooked, so close to many places of interest and yet so remote to be able to relax by the fire and enjoythe beautiful surroundings. We felt very much at home here, Joshi doesn't want to go home, he loved to be able to see sheep out of his window lying in bed. We will definately be back next year (already planning when to come) The cottage is absolutely lovely and so clean which makes all the difference! Love The Gallions. x

Our 10th visit to Tottergill - and for October - we have had a good week - weather wise. Mild, so some mist but also three lovely sunny days. Still beautiful, and I feel sure we will be back. Thank you Joyce & Stephen for a lovely cottage.
Susan & Nigel Crick, Barnsley - 12th October 2007 (Gelt cottage)
Incredible weather for the end of September. We first stayed at Tottergill in 1977!! It was wonderful then & it is still. Thankyou for the welcome roses which are as good now as when we came.
